Review — Emberline Covenant, strategy in service of the story

Emberline Covenant By Noah Lindqvist Reviewed on PC

Emberline Covenant places every battle inside a campaign where losses are paid for over time. That is where the game is at its sharpest.

Combat runs on three resources shared between units. You cannot spend everything on one fight without compromising the next.

The writing supports that tension well: companions react to management decisions, not only to dialogue.

Technically, the PC version is stable. Some slowdown appears on the largest late-game maps.

Strengths

  • A campaign economy that genuinely constrains you
  • Characters written without caricature
  • A clear interface despite dense systems

Weaknesses

  • A more repetitive final act
  • Some performance dips on large maps

An excellent tactical RPG, best suited to players willing to lose ground without reloading a save.
